Last week another Haute Couture week wrapped up in Paris. Couture Week is by far my favorite of all the fashion weeks and attending is probably the highest ranked item on my bucket list. Twice per year, a small number of couturiers put together their most fabulous and lush collections, made with extreme detail and care, and will sometimes spend more than 500 hours hand sewing and perfecting each detail on one gown alone. It is simply the most gorgeous week of the year.
As I am known to do, I have pinned each of my favorite looks from the shows on my Pinterest page, but I wanted to give my favorites a highlight here on my blog. While I liked something from each designer, for me, this season was all about Valentino, Giambattista Valli and Zuhair Murad.
Valentino always blows me away at Couture. The construction of the gowns is flawless and each look is perfectly tailored. The pieces look completely elegant and so timeless, and a lot of the times, the backs of the looks are more interesting than the front. One thing that Valentino did that I loved was take a few variations on a cape dress. Watch the full show here.
Giambattista Valli’s collection felt much more like Spring than Fall, but I wasn’t mad about it. My favorites of his from this collection were the bright floral details and light white looks. Very fun and very floral. I also loved every look with the sheer, slinky skirts that swept the floor. Watch the full show here.
Nearly each of Zuhair Murad’s couture looks was made for a Red Carpet, but what I liked most about the collection wasn’t only the structure of the dresses, but when the looks went off structure a bit. Shifting from geometrical shapes and lines to free-flowing vein-like details. Part of the collection made you wonder if he was showcasing something that was more aquatic or meant to look more beneath the skin. Watch the full show here.
